Scrap Commission

 

Purpose:

The Scrap (Disposal) Committee operates to ensure that the identification, evaluation, and disposal of educational, laboratory, and office equipment within the department—when they reach the end of their economic life, become unusable, or obsolete—are carried out in accordance with the relevant regulations and institutional procedures.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Identification and Evaluation

• Identify devices and materials that are out of use, malfunctioning, or not economically feasible to repair.

Economic and Environmental Considerations

• Ensure that recyclable equipment and materials are directed to the appropriate units.
• Oversee waste management practices in compliance with environmental sustainability principles.

Occupational Health and Safety

• Monitor adherence to safety procedures during the disposal of electronic, chemical, or potentially hazardous materials.

Reporting

• Prepare annual or periodic reports on disposal activities and submit them to the department chair.
